Morant after completing his high school at Crestwood High School decided to join the Murray State and their basketball team the Racers. In his second year of college, Morant became the unstoppable king of the court when he achieved first-team All-American as a sophomore in 2019. Why did JA Morant decide to join Murray State College?
Morant mostly played in the AAU tournaments and he was even considered as the two-star perspective player when his high school career ended. Meanwhile, he didn’t receive any national ranking from major scouting services like Rivals, 247 Sports, or ESPN due to which he was an undiscovered star.
Murray’s assistant coach James Kane knew about the star potential of JA Morant when he saw him at a camp put on by Chandler Parsons’ AAU program. Morant was not given attention by other universities due to his late entry into the camp.
Moreover, Morant still received a scholarship offer from South Carolina, but he refused them and joined the Murray State, who badly wanted to sign him.

When was JA Morant drafted in the NBA?
JA Morant made his entry into NBA when he was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies as the second overall pick. Meanwhile, in June 2019, he signed a two-year contract worth $17,897,040 with them. His debut match was against the Miami Heat where he scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal, and a block but eventually lost the game.
Furthermore, in that season through his eye-popping performances, he also became the NBA Rookie of the Year and brought this award to the Grizzlies second time in their history. While at the end of the season he also earned the NBA All-Rookie First Team honor.
