Neeraj Chopra eyes the 90 meter mark after his national record throw

Neeraj Chopra has kicked off his season in remarkable fashion. The 23-year-old rewrote his national record by a slender 0.01 metre to throw a whopping 88.07 metres at the Indian Grand Prix 3 in Patiala.
After breaking the national record, Neeraj has a new target in mind, which is to throw over 90m. “I want to throw over 90,” Neeraj said when asked if he has a target set for himself during a virtual press conference.

Neeraj also expressed elation over breaking the national record. “It’s a good feeling to break a national record. It is always good to improve and I am happy with the achievement. I had a good release in that throw.” It is noteworthy that owing to injuries and coronavirus pandemic, Neeraj did not compete for a long time.
The Athletics Federation of India’s (AFI) Adille Sumariwalla also attended the virtual conference and talked of the importance of having bench strength. He said having a group of good athletes is important for the players as they help each other improve as well as push each other to do better.
