Neeraj Chopra has just etched his name in history as he won the men’s javelin final gold at the World Athletic Championship 2023. With this historic triumph, he has become the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship.
For the uninitiated, the finals were held in Budapest. He launched a rocket-like throw that went 88.17 meters, making him unbeatable in the event. In the last edition of the same event, Chopra secured a silver medal.
The other two Indians at the event finished 5th and 6th, respectively. This feat is extraordinary since this is the first time that three Indians have finished in the top six in any major track and field event.

What was Neeraj’s throw like?

The crowd-favorite Olympic gold medalist did not have the desired start. He threw it only 79 meters in his first attempt. With that bad throw, he stepped over the line and drew a foul.
However, as the second throw went into the air, the crowd cheered, and Neeraj Chopra knew that this was it. As has been seen in previous cases, we saw the Olympic gold medalist celebrate pre-emptively.
The Pakistani representative, Arshad Nadeem, finished second, and the Czech representative, Jakub Vadlejch, finished third in the race for the medal. With that being said, as Chopra makes history and makes India proud, he sure will be elated to bring home not just the medal but the history written on it too.
