Jannik Sinner has confirmed that his coach Darren Cahill, who joined his team in 2022, will not be working with him after the 2025 season. Sinner announced the same on Thursday following his four-set win over home favorite Tristan Schoolkate in the second round of the Australian Open.
Cahill, along with coach Simone Vagnozzi, helped Sinner become the No.1 player for the first time. He clinched his first two Grand Slam titles in 2024 (Australian Open and US Open) and four Masters 1000 titles, among others under them.
The 23-year-old, who capped off the 2024 season with a 73-6 win-loss record, also became a champion at the ATP Finals for the first time while working with them.
The announcement came following Cahill’s admission that after Sinner, he would quit coaching. Before Sinner, the Australian coach had worked with Grand Slam champions like Simona Halep, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andre Agassi.
While the news of Sinner ending his collaboration with the 59-year-old coach has shocked the tennis world, many fans are convinced that the reason behind Cahill’s decision to part ways with Sinner is due to the doping controversy.
Netizens blame the doping scandal for Darren Cahill’s decision to leave Jannik Sinner’s team after 2025
Fans are expecting a lengthy ban on Jannik Sinner from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Sinner, who had a small amount of a banned anabolic drug clostebol in his body last year, was declared innocent by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
But as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) interfered and approached the CAS to demand a ban on the youngster, Sinner is surrounded with uncertainty, for the CAS’ hearing is in April this year, and the verdict against his favor could ruin his impressive career.
This is why fans on social media think Darren Cahill doesn’t want to get embroiled in another controversy and chose to leave Sinner’s team after this season.

Interesting, why he decided to announce it after the second round at the AO. But actually this decision was expected after the doping case. The coach should be held responsible for it 😐

No surprise, I feel that coach was the catalyst behind the cheating. I wish Sinner stayed with his old team. His then probability of success in winning grand slam was very high and with honor.

Maybe he doesn’t want to be around when things get worse

I think Cahill is trying to separate from Sinner. He played the same number on Halep (long before her doping), he said he wants to focus more on his kids and then in 4 months he was training Anisimova. Then he pulled the same no on Anisimova citing burnout and then he came back a…

so is that true Cahill is resigning as Sinner coach? if true, that strongly implies sinner is a drug cheat.

Very curious timing… why announce that your coach will no longer be your coach one whole year in advance?

Sinner, in the ongoing tournament, is set to lock horns with Marcos Giron, who defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in five sets in the previous round. The 1st seed leads 1-0 in his head-to-head meeting against the American.
