While he didn’t get much playing time in his rookie season and remained a backup to star Jimmy Garoppolo, it loos like he might be the Week 1 starter in 2022.

The 49ers have been trying to unload Jimmy G for the past half year now and it looks like their prayers have been answered, As per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, the Seattle Seahawks have extensively studied their rival QB and had an internal discussion about bringing I’m as their QB1 for the coming season.

49ers legend and the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, Jerry Rice showed his appreciation for Trey Lance and praised the young QB for his amazing skillsets. The Hall of Fame receiver said that he believes Lance will be the Week 1 starter ahead of veteran QB Jimmy G for the 2022 season who might be traded very soon. “Trey Lance is ready to play. His mobility on the field, his throwing arm strength, he’s definitely ahead of his time,” Rice said.

Three-time Super Bowl champion with San Francisco, Jerry Rice couldn’t stop gushing over Lance’s abilities who at 22 has been quite impressive. “I think it’s unbelievable, Trey’s ability. He has that aspect that Jimmy doesn’t have, that ease of movement and running that will make him a threat to opponents,” Rice added. “It didn’t take me long to see his range. He’s got a rocket in his arm, great mobility and that vision where he can extend plays and throw the ball on short trajectories.”

That’s some high praise coming from the best wide receiver to ever play in the league. But Rice believes that the young star still needs to bond with his offense. Since Lance didn’t get to star on the field compared to his draft class quarterbacks, he has to develop these skills. “I’m sure with repetitions on the field the players around him will build the rest, so I think Trey will have a successful year,” Rice concluded.

There might be something unique about Trey Lance if Jerry Rice says so. Let’s see whether Lance stands up to the high standard to which Rice holds him or does he fall short in his first season as QB1 for the 49ers.
