“I’m not going to stand in the way” – Aaron Rodgers finally opens up about Davante Adams leaving the Green Bay Packer

Aaron Rodgers has been known to be a drama queen by everyone in the league. Rodgers threatened to leave Green Bay when the organization drafted QB Jordan Love. However, the front office somehow pacified the star QB.

During this offseason, Rodgers made the play to become the highest-paid QB in the history of the NFL which the Packers had to give into. Due to this, they had to let go of their most successful wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams’ absence has left a big hole in the WR unit and since the Packers are all out of money, they will have to make do with what they have.

Aaron Rodgers made the most selfish move according to many NFL critics and fans alike that will give the quarterback over $150.815 million over the next three years with $75 million guaranteed at signing. Davante Adams was placed on a franchise tag by the Packers and the star receiver refused to play on a franchise tag. Since the front office was unable to pay Adams, he decided to leave Green Bay and join the Raiders.

Davante Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for two picks in the 2022 draft by the Packers. Many blamed Rodgers for Adams relocating to Las Vegas. On Tuesday after the Packers’ minicamp practice, the 4x NFL MVP spoke in great detail about his favorite target Davante Adams.

“We had some really honest conversations about my future here and how long I wanted to play, and his own thoughts about his future and where he wanted to play and live and raise his family,” Rodgers explained via Madison.com. “The team obviously stepped up and made a competitive or even more compelling (contract) offer (than the Raiders did). Ultimately, Davante thought it was best for him and his family to be in Vegas. So that was tough, for sure. But I love Tae and love our connection.”

Adams had a glorious run with the Packers. He finished his eight-year career in Green Bay with 669 regular-season receptions for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns. Adams ranks fourth in Packers history in receiving yards (2,016 behind leader Donald Driver’s 10,137), second in receptions (74 behind Driver’s 743), and second in touchdown catches (26 behind Don Hutson’s 99).

“I asked him at the end, I said, ‘What can I do for you?’ And he said he wanted to go to Vegas. So, I said, ‘All right,’” Rodgers said. “That’s ultimately what he wanted, was to be in Vegas and to kind of start the next chapter of his career. Look, I’m not going to stand in the way of that. I love him. It’s really hard for sure, but when you love somebody and you care about somebody like that, ultimately you want them to be happy. And he felt like, I think, he was going to be happier in Vegas with him and his family being close to the family and on the West Coast.”

In the end, Rodgers said it was his uncertainty of playing another season and Adams’s relationship with Derek Carr that sealed the decision for him to leave Green Bay.
