“We have expectations”: Matt LaFleur expects his rookie receivers to be coached by Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is finally back at the Packers training camp, the quarterback was absent for a significant part of the minicamp which was voluntary but he did show up to participate in some conditioning drills when he was in town for an NBA game last month. Now with the commencement of the mandatory minicamp, all the players are beginning to get serious and back to business after a long break. For Rodgers, it is time to get over his golf victory over Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes and focus on football.

Rodgers was not the most excited while returning to minicamp which one can expect, imagine returning to school after the summer break only to find out that your best friends are no longer in the same class as you. Similar is the case with the QB, his go-to weapons, Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are no longer on the Packers roster, they are in different teams which means Aaron has to start from scratch in terms of building chemistry with the wideouts he has never played against or with whom he has very little experience throwing to.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are still in “jog-through” mode:

Matt LaFleur has high expectations from Aaron Rodgers this season

Aaron Rodgers’ return had the entire Packers organization optimistic and happy, head coach Matt LaFleur was most excited and he shared his plans for the upcoming days at the press conference on Tuesday. Speaking about his quarterback, he stated that Rodgers will be subject to individual drills and that the team is still in “jog-through” mode for teamwork.

They appear to be taking things very slow and casually, for now, LaFleur also said that Aaron will “handle those reps and the 7-on-7” this week. That should give him a much-needed chance to bond with the rookie wideouts and the team’s only hope in terms of offensive weapons, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

Coach LaFleur also said that he is excited about this as the rookies have not had a chance to work with Aaron yet. “It’s their first opportunity to be on the field with him, so they get to kinda learn how he operated and the expectations that we all have of all those guys out there,” he said.

The team has to get adjusted to the learning curve and the work they put in this offseason and in summer will be detrimental to how they perform during the season. Though the rookie receivers in all likelihood are excited to work with Rodgers, the quarterback may not be equally enthusiastic as he has to learn and adjust to players to that he has never thrown the ball to.

Will Aaron Rodgers be able to cope with this change or will he struggle following a remarkable MVP season?
