Trey Lance seems to have everything pointing towards him being the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers come the start of the 2022 NFL season. He had to wait a bit but it seems as though his time has finally come.

After the Niners made an unbelievable trade at last year’s draft to move up to #3, they decided to commit to Trey Lance as their quarterback of the future. It was quite the statement given they already had Jimmy Garoppolo on their roster who had led them to a Super Bowl just 2 years earlier.

Nonetheless, the Niners elected to go with Lance and it seems as though they were right in doing so. While Garoppolo did get them to an NFC Championship, he did struggle along the way and once again couldn’t deliver with a big game on the line.

So now, Lance having not played much and Jimmy G likely to be traded away, it’s all for Lance to be the starter come week 1 and his teammates are definitely ready for that as Arden Key recently expressed.

On an Instagram live, Arden Key was asked about Trey Lance by ‘TheSFNiners’ to which he responded “Trey got better throughout the year. He gon’ be a motherf***in’ dog. Now, granted, he’s gonna make mistakes because he didn’t play this year but he’s gonna be a dog.”

When you’re selected number 3 overall, you’re expected to be a really good football player. While Trey Lance didn’t get to start full time last year, he did show some flashes of what he can do including one not-so-great start against the Cardinals where he threw an interception and had no touchdowns.

He now has a full offseason to settle in with the team, work with the starter and fully prepare himself for the coming season. He wasn’t selected so highly for no reason. Clearly, his front office and teammates believe in him. All he has to do now is make sure he’s ready for the challenge of a full NFL season.
