San Franciso 49ers had a rough season this year. Despite their ups and downs, the 49ers managed to defeat the mighty Green Bay Packers and reach the NFC Championship game. However, they were brutally crushed by the Rams.

There were rumors running around the league that the 49ers might be moving on from current quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. After a 17-minute zoom media session, it seems certain that the 49ers will be trading Garoppolo come offseason.

“It’s been a hell of a ride,” Garoppolo said as he stopped, looked into the camera, and delivered what was unmistakably a farewell message to Niners fans. “I love you guys. See ya.” Jimmy G was selected by New England Patriots in the 2014 draft. He was back up to Tom Brady until 2017 when he was traded to San Fransico in exchange for the 49ers’ second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

“I was talking to John yesterday about finding the right destination and whatever the future holds, just doing it the right way,” the 30-year old QB said. “I’ve got a long career ahead of me. I’m excited about it. I’m excited about the opportunities to come. I just want to go to a place where they want to win. That’s really what I’m in this game for. I’m here to play football, win football games and as long as I’ve got that and good people around me, I think the rest will take care of itself.”

Garoppolo’s trade will be finalized by the time the new league year starts on March 16. The 49ers will save $25 million in salary cap after trading Garoppolo. The Niners need this cap to re-sign their own key players including WR Deeboo Samuel and DE Nick Bosa both of whom are under contract but are priorities to sign to lucrative extensions this offseason.

“We’ve done right by each other just throughout this whole relationship,” Garoppolo said. “We’ll work it out one way or another. I don’t know how exactly that will work, but I think both sides will be happy in the end.”

There is no shortage of teams looking for a new quarterback — Pittsburgh, Washington, New Orleans, Denver, and Tampa Bay, among others. Depending on how things turn out for Aaron Rodgers and Rusell Wilson, Garoppolo could be the next accomplished QB available.
