“You can now move Jimmy Garoppolo on,” Colin Cowherd delivers damning statement on QB’s future at the San Francisco 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo’s time with the San Francisco 49ers might just come to an end this season. After the 49ers’ 17-20 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional playoff match, Garoppolo has found himself in the firing line for his disastrous showing on the night.

The 30-year old arrived in San Francisco in 2017, from the New England Patriots as the franchise supposedly saw him as the next big thing and fit enough to lead their side. However, a very bad piece of play against the LA Rams, which saw him throw a ragged pass after being pressurised by Rams’ Aaron Donald has brought question marks to his future.

Jimmy Garoppolo did not have the best of playoff games for the San Francisco 49ers this season

It also does not help that the 49ers have brought in Trey Lance in the last draft, as they now see him as the future quarterback and with age on his side, one would not argue like to argue.

Popular NFL analyst, Colin Cowherd seems to be of the belief that Jimmy Garoppolo’s time with the Niners has come to an end. He reckons that it would be in the best interests of Garoppolo that he make the move to somewhere like the Denver Broncos or the Pittsburg Steelers next season, to revive his NFL career.

Colin Cowherd said, “He’s always been good enough to get you here, but in the fourth quarter he didn’t play well, Matt Stafford did, and Garoppolo looked like a little bit of a liability. The Niners have the coach, they have the system, they’ve got the defense, they’ve got the weapons, but they need to upgrade at quarterback. Over the last three playoffs, any team with a 10-point fourth-quarter lead is 19-2. The two losses are Jimmy Garoppolo.”

Cowherd continued, “But he deserves credit because he didn’t fold and didn’t get his feelings hurt. When they brought in Trey Lance, and he also played hurt this entire playoff run, and he’s absolutely good enough to get you to a Super Bowl and win multiple playoff games. But now you can move him because you can make the argument that you’re just not quite good enough there, and you give it to Trey Lance.

“There is a very strong likelihood Jimmy ends up on a Denver or Pittsburgh. Because of his injuries, the 49ers will not get very much if they trade him, I doubt they get a first-round pick. A team like Pittsburgh could take a flyer on him, his salary isn’t outrageous, and you give up a second-round pick.”

“He would win a lot of games in Pittsburgh with those receivers, that running back, that star tight end, and that defense. If he goes to Denver with Fant, Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, an All-Pro left tackle, and that defense he’s going to win a lot of games in Denver. There’s a strong likelihood since he’s not going to cost a lot, that a really good team is going to take a flyer on him for a year and draft a quarterback.”
