“Can’t coach the Cowboys forever” – Mike McCarthy REVEALS his status as the Cowboys’ head coach after Jerry Jones’ vague comments

Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones
The Cowboys had a great regular season as they were 12-5 and won the NFC East. Every Cowboys fan out there hoped that Dallas might make a Super Bowl trip this year and ultimately lift the Lombardi Trophy.
Instead of this narrative, the Dallas Cowboys had a swift playoffs exit as they were defeated in the wild card round itself. After their untimely exit, rumors about Mike McCarthy being fired from his head coach position spread like wildfire.
Mike McCarthy talked with Jerry Jones revolving his future and came to a final conclusion

The rumors about McCarthy being fired were sparked again after Sean Payton stepped down as the head coach of the New Orlean Saints. Payton served as the assistant head coach & quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys and was the apple of Jerry Jones‘ eyes. The entire league started making connections about Payton taking over McCarthy’s job.
Jerry Jones also openly suggested that Dan Quinn, the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys is head coach material. Furthermore, the Cowboys owner made a snide comment about McCarthy’s future that led everyone to believe he might be terminated from the organization.
“Mike knows that someday somebody other than him will be the coach of the Cowboys,” Jones said during a Senior Bowl interview two weeks ago. However, McCarthy isn’t worried about his future. “We talked about it. We talked about Dan’s situation. We talked about Sean Payton’s narrative also,” the Cowboys head coach said on the Rich Eisen Show.

Rich asked Mike whether Jones and he talked about Jones’ comments. Mike however couldn’t share the entire conservation publicly but he did give the gist of what they discussed — “You and I are in this back to back. It’s a partnership. Just focus on what we need to do moving forward. At the end of the day, we both want the same thing, to win the World Championship. You gotta trust the relationship, the communication, and the connection that you have in our leadership group. I think we’re doing everything we possibly can to build a championship team here.”
Despite all the rumors, it appears that Mike McCarthy will stay on as the head coach for Dallas Cowboys. Mike said via the Dallas Morning News, “I’m the leader of this football team, and I’m about winning, and that’s all I’ve ever focused on, and that’s all I ever will focus on.”
