“They have a great shot of winning that division” Chris Broussard believes Jimmy Garoppolo is the key for the Colts to remain competitive

The Indianapolis Colts recently sent Carson Wentz to the newly named Washington Commanders which means they need a new quarterback for 2022. Chris Broussard believes Jimmy Garoppolo could be that person.
Wentz only got one season in Indy after being traded to them by the Eagles. While he wasn’t terrible, he wasn’t brilliant either. That coupled with a late-season collapse prompted the Colts to grow impatient with him and move on.
So, now that they need someone new, it’s natural that Jimmy Garoppolo is mentioned in the conversation. After all, the Niners used the 3rd overall pick last year to get Trey Lance. He’s clearly the future of the team. With Garoppolo on the trade block, surely he will garner some attention soon.
While he hasn’t been traded yet, Chris Broussard recently voiced his opinion on why Jimmy Garoppolo is a good option for the Indianapolis Colts.
Chris Broussard believes Jimmy Garoppolo can make the Colts competitive
On a segment of Fox Sports’ ‘First Things First’, Chris Broussard was quoted saying “The San Francisco 49ers with Kyle Shanahan, they were 1-10 when Jimmy Garoppolo got there. And they just run off 5 wins and go to the Super Bowl a few years later when he’s healthy. So, Jimmy G definitely has an impact.”
Broussard further added “Now, I’m not putting this guy in the class of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, and so on. He’s not. But I’m saying if you can’t get one of those superstar quarterbacks then, Jimmy Garoppolo is a nice consolation prize. A very nice one. What Frank Reich will do with Jimmy G, they have a great shot of winning that division. I’m not going to overstate it but this would be a great decision for them.”
Jimmy Garoppolo finished the 2021 season having thrown for 3810 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Those numbers aren’t exactly the most optimistic but there’s more to him than that. He succeeds when he is not the focal point of the offense and Indianapolis has a superstar in running back Jonathan Taylor.
If Indy commits to the run game and asks Garoppolo to be the game manager, he could very well succeed there. His stats weren’t mind-blowing this year but the Niners still made the NFC Championship game. There certainly is potential for success with Garoppolo at the helm.
