San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be undergoing shoulder surgery according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Garoppolo who had injured his thumb in his team’s playoff run last season however will not be having surgery on his thumb.

This shoulder surgery will be sidelining him until the summer. The surgery is to repair a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder. He had injured his shoulder in the Wild Card matchup against the Dallas Cowboys and will now be out of action for 16 weeks.

Adam Schefter confirms Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury

Adam Schefter has confirmed that according to his inside sources at ESPN, Jimmy Garoppolo will be undergoing his shoulder surgery and this will be sidelining him until the summer. However, Schefter has also confirmed that his surgery will not be affecting his trade status whatsoever.

It has been reported that there is still a ‘significant amount of interest ‘ for Jimmy Garoppolo from other teams and this surgery will not be affecting his trade. Additionally, he is expected to be back before the July 4th holiday for normal work.

“49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to soon undergo shoulder surgery that would sideline him until this summer, sources tell ESPN. It is not expected to impact his trade status and Garoppolo still is likely to be traded this month, per sources,” Schefter tweeted.

Garoppolo injured his shoulder during the wild-card win over Dallas, per sources. He does not need thumb surgery for another injury he also played through. Surgery is expected to happen shortly. There is “significant interest” in Garoppolo from multiple teams, per sources.”

Preliminary estimates are that Garoppolo is expected to resume throwing sometime prior to the July 4 holiday. If and when a trade is consummated, Garoppolo would be available to begin working with the new coaching and medical staff.”
