Dallas Cowboys urge Randy Gregory to take “Hometown discount,” as franchise looks for salary-cap solutions

The Dallas Cowboys are not having the best of times, both on and off the pitch. The Cowboys failed to reach the Super Bowl last season, after suffering a shock defeat against the San Francisco 49ers in the first round encounter of the playoffs.

They are also struggling to deal with their salary cap, which has already been exceeded by over $20-plus million. Jerry Jones led Dallas Cowboys, are therefore looking to nail down veteran defensive end, Randy Gregory to the franchise, but with a salary cut.

Randy Gregory might have to take a salary cut, popularly known as the hometown discount. The franchise believes that the player might take the pay cut, because of the support he has received during his troublesome time from the Dallas Cowboys. Gregory is coming off a season in which he had 6.0 sacks. He was immensely valuable as both a rotational and starter pass rusher.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher, “One source tells CowboysSI.com that owner Jerry Jones is hopeful of a “hometown discount” from Gregory once the two sides get serious about a long-term contract.”

“There has been some discussion of all of this among the parties while the NFL is in Indianapolis for the scouting combine. And maybe the talks won’t intensity between now and Tuesday’s tag-decision deadline.”

The Cowboys’ failure to spend big in free agency doesn’t imply they’ve solved all of their financial problems. Simply extending their own players will be difficult.

Jerry Jones will almost certainly ask some people to take pay concessions this summer in order to ensure that his team has a competitive squad in 2022. They need to conduct some meaningful business during the offseason to build a strong enough team to challenge for the Super Bowl next season.
