This offseason has been one of the wildest ones in NFL history and more so for the wide receivers. This offseason saw WRs receiving quarterback-like money. The Green Bay Packers traded their star receiver Davanate Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs also had to lose Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.
Both the trades had to do with money and other star receivers are looking to follow in Adams’ and Hill’s footsteps. The biggest news this week was 49ers’ Deebo Samuel removing his 49ers profile pics and cleaning out all the posts related to the team on his Instagram handle.
Deebo Samuel deleted over 80 San Franicos posts from his Instagram
Ari Meirov of PFF was the first to point out that Deebo Samuel removed his 49ers profile picture on Instagram, unfollowed the team, and deleted over 80 posts from his account. Could this mean that Samuel is moving out of San Fransico? Samuel was selected in the second round by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 NFL draft and signed a four-year contract.
Now, the 26-year-old receiver is entering the final year of his rookie deal along with other notable WRs like DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown, and Terry McLaurin. There are enough rumors that have circulated about these receivers. As ESPN reported last week, the New York Jets have been “keeping an eye” on Metcalf, Brown, and Samuel for a potential trade after striking out on Hill.
Deebo Samuel is coming off his best year yet. He caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns and was also used as a running back in Kyle Shanahan’s system, rushing 59 times for 365 yards and eight more touchdowns. At the 2022 Pro Bowl, Deebo after the game created a new position for himself. He declared himself a “wide back” (wide receiver that plays running back) after being used as a running back midway and through the rest of the season.
He might be justified in seeking top-tier money that makes him one of the highest-paid wide receivers. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in San Franciso now that Deebo Samuel seems to gave made up his mind to leave the 49ers.
