“I said it out of frustration & anger”: Greg Jennings claim he criticized Aaron Rodgers to safeguard his own place in Packers

Greg Jennings and Aaron Rodgers

On 29th November 2007, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings caught the first touchdown pass of Aaron Rodgers’s career who was then a backup quarterback for the Packers. This 11-yard touchdown came in the Packers’ 37-27 loss against the Dallas Cowboys.

Aaron Rodgers was in his 3rd season back then and came into the game to replace the starting quarterback of the Packers – Ben Favre who was knocked down in the second quarter due to an arm injury. Since that moment, there has been no looking back for Aaron Rodgers who has further added 444 more touchdown passes since then to his tally.

“It was a big deal for him but it wasn’t a big deal for me”: Greg Jennings on Aaron Rodgers’ first TD

Jennings said that catching Aaron Rodgers’s first touchdown was not a big thing to him as they were losing and he had been catching big touchdown passes from Brett Favre throughout that whole season. He furthermore added that now it can be treated as a trivia question for the upcoming generation.

Furthermore, Jennings recently said, “It was sign of his durability, his consistency and just pure elitism. I was reminded of all he’s been through, from taking over from Brett and the first time he stepped on the field at our Family Night, our first scrimmage at Lambeau Field in training camp, he was greeted by a barrage of boos. And to see him turn into what he has is just a true testament to his ability to stick to a plan and be great.”

Currently, Jennings does not have a good relationship with Rodgers as he publicly made some negative comments about the QB after signing a 5 years – 47.5 million contract with the Vikings in 2013. He criticized Rodgers’ leadership quality and said that he wasn’t fully in favor of Jennings staying at Packers.

Aaron Rodgers replied by saying, “People taking shots at me who aren’t relevant to this team and to this locker room doesn’t mean a whole lot to me.” Jennings talked and apologized to Rodgers when they played each other and said, “Those were my feelings (at the time), but there was no need for me to say those things. It was done out of frustration, anger, because I wanted my career to remain and be knotted up like a nice little bow in Green Bay.”

Jennings said that he would love to have a good relationship with Rodgers again since his four children are big Green Bay Packers fans and would like his kids to meet Aaron Rodgers and be proud of their father that they both played together.
