In the ’90s, Denver hired former OC Mike Shanahan as the head coach, along with a talented roster such as Terrell Davis as running back, Shannon Sharpe as tight end and Rod Smith as the wide receiver. As one of the premier offenses in the NFL, the Broncos landed their first-ever Super Bowl trophy in 1998.
In the previous four Super Bowl appearances, the Broncos couldn’t score a win. But this, against the Packers for Super Bowl XXXII, held in San Deigo, California, they finally emerged as the top. They defeated the Packers at 31-24. And running back Davis was awarded the MVP title that year.
1999: Super Bowl XXXIII
After the 98′ win, the Broncos once again appeared in the Super Bowl, the very next year in 1999. The Super Bowl XXXIII was held in Miami, Florida. They faced off against the Atlanta Falcons, the NFC champions.
At half-time, Denver was in the lead at 17-6 and easily took it to a winning score of 34-19. Broncos’ legendary QB John Elway was given the MVP award that year for competing 18 out of 29 passes for 336 yards and one touchdown.
2016: Super Bowl 50
After a decade and a half of drought for the Super Bowl, Denver returned in 2014 against the Seattle Seahawks but couldn’t score a win. The following year in 2015, it again appeared in the 50th edition of this huge game. The game was held in Santa Clara, California, against the Carolina Panthers.
Denver scored the victory by two touchdowns at a dominating 24-10. Broncos’ linebacker Von Miller was rewarded with the MVP title that season. He recorded six tackles, two quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks and a pass defended.
