The New England Patriots, are the team that holds the record for having the highest count of Super Bowl victories. It’s an American football team based in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The franchise is one of the oldest teams, that joined the American Football League (AFL) in 1960 as Boston Patriots. As they stepped foot in the league, they quickly became a highly competitive field comprising quarterback Vito (“Babe”) Parilli, wide receiver Gino Cappelletti and linebacker Nick Buoniconti.
In the second season of their participation, the team scored the winning record, and by the fourth, it paved its way up to the AFL championship game. But the Patriots didn’t always have confetti, as they witnessed seven back-to-back losing seasons, after the 1966 divisional finish.
In addition to that, the team didn’t have a fixed home stadium for 10 years and played in four different locations in Boston. They didn’t find it until 1971, after the mega AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Soon, they relocated to Foxborough and renamed the New England Patriots.
The team experienced an erratic success period in the 70s and 80s. It was the time when the Patriots were led by one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history, John Hannah, and cornerback Mike Haynes, who went on to become a Hall of Famer, and Steve Grogan as the quarterback.
In 2000, the franchise hired Bill Belichick as the head coach, which is known to be one of the most substantial decisions made by New England to date. And there began a new era for the Patriots. So far, the team has made 11 Super Bowl appearances, in which they have won six.

How many Super Bowl titles do the New England Patriots have?
Known as one of the most powerful football teams, the New England Patriots hold a joint record with the Pittsburgh Steelers for having the highest number of Super Bowl wins. They have six Super Bowl victories under head coach Bill Belichick.
The first-ever Super Bowl victory the Patriots claimed was in 2002, against the St. Louis Rams (now known as L.A. Rams). The detailed list of Patriots Super Bowl victories is as follows:
2002: Super Bowl XXXVI
By hiring Bill Belichick as the head coach in 2000 the Patriots made their strongest move. Under him, the team swiftly became one of the most powerful teams in the league. In 2001, as Bledsoe was benched due to a serious injury, Tom Brady got a chance to step on the field. The team was taking a chance at Brady, but surprisingly it worked well in their favor.
The Patriots faced off against the St. Louis Rams after an amazing season in 2001, held at the Louisiana Superdome. Late in the game, the young quarterback made the perfect drive, as the team’s kicker Adam Vinatieri launched a field goal in the last seconds, leading the team to their first-ever Super Bowl victory at 20-17 over the Rams.
2004: Super Bowl XXXVIII
A couple of years after their first Super Bowl win, in 2004, the Patriots returned to face off against the Carolina Panthers. With just a few seconds left in the game, the score was tied at 29-29.
Once again, the kicker Adam Vinatieri showed his magic and kicked a winning field goal 41-yard. The Patriots won 32-29, while quarterback Brady was titled the MVP for breaking the Super Bowl record of 32 completions.
2005: Super Bowl XXXIX
The very next year after winning Super Bowl XXXVIII, the New England Patriots again appeared in the Super Bowl, against the Philadelphia Eagles, in 2005. This time, the Patriots defense dominated the field and forced the opponents to turn the bowl over four times.
The Patriots scored the win by three points after summing the game at 24-21. The MVP title again went to the Patriots, but to Deion Branch for tying the Super Bowl with 11 receptions.
2015: Super Bowl XLIX
Until the 2015 Super Bowl, the Patriots had made two more Super Bowl appearances but lost to the New York Giants. For Super Bowl XLIX, the team stepped up miraculously and claimed to win against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015.
With just 26 seconds remaining in the game, the Seahawks had a chance to turn the game around from 28-24. But instead of running the ball, QB Russell Wilson decided to pass it to Jermaine Kearse, but ended up being intercepted right at the goal line by Malcolm Butler, and the Patriots won their fourth Super Bowl title.
2017: Super Bowl LI
At Super Bowl LI, in 2017, New England Patriots made history by having the largest Super Bowl comeback in the history of the NFL. They faced off against the Atlanta Falcons and claimed victory at 23-28. With 8.36 minutes remaining in the game, the Patriots had the slightest chance of scoring the win.
But when the team decided, both offense and defense stepped up their game and made a giant comeback to balance the score from 3 to a tie of 28. In the tie-round, the Patriots won the coin toss, where running back James White made a two-yard touchdown run to have the legendary comeback.
2019: Super Bowl LIII
The last and most recent Super Bowl victory that the Patriots claimed was half a decade ago, in 2019. They faced the Los Angeles Rams and outlasted them at 13-3. This Super Bowl LIII was the lowest-scoring game in the Super Bowl history.
The excellent defense of the Patriots only allowed their opponent three points through four sacks and nine forced punts. Wide receiver Julian Edelman was named the MVP for ten receptions and 141 yards.
How many Super Bowl appearances does the New England Patriots have won?
In 1986, with a wonderful season, the Patriots made their first-ever Super Bowl appearance against the Chicago Bears, who unfortunately defeated them with a dominating 46-10.
The team couldn’t reach the Super Bowl until 1997 when coach Bills Parcells took over and was led by quarterback Drew Bledsoe. They faced off against the Green Bay Packers but couldn’t win the Super Bowl XXXI. But it wasn’t all bad, as this marked the beginning of their three consecutive years of playoff football. The team has, so far, 11 Super Bowl appearances, from 1985 to 2018. They have won six out of these, and have the record for the most Super Bowl appearances in NFL.
