The city of Baltimore welcomed back football in 1996, after 12 years when Art Modell relocated the Cleveland Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore. That gave birth to the Baltimore Ravens of today.
The Ravens, in their short history, have established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the NFL. They built their identity on defense and were ferocious on that side of the ball. The Ravens’ early success was led by the legendary linebacker Ray Lewis. He was instrumental in creating a defensive juggernaut in the early 2000s and even tasted Super Bowl success in 2000.
The Baltimore Ravens have had a tremendous journey in the NFL. They have a regular season record of 246–191–1 since their inception, which ranks third-highest among active franchises.
They are also one of the most successful playoff teams with a record of 16-12 in the postseason. In their short history, they have already won a couple of Super Bowls and have been to the AFC Championship game four times, winning twice. They also have six AFC North division titles to their name.
From legendary defensemen such as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed to offensive wizards like Lamar Jackson and Shannon Sharpe, a lot of great players have donned the Ravens jersey. The Ravens’ current roster includes some great players like Odell Beckham Jr. and Mark Andrews. Jackson has already won a league MVP before and is looking to add a Super Bowl ring to his resume. How many Super Bowls do the Baltimore Ravens have won?
The Baltimore Ravens have won a couple of Super Bowls. Their first title came in 2000, when a Ray Lewis-led defense dismantled the New York Giants by 27 points.
The Ravens’ next Super Bowl title came in 2012, in which they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a dramatic 34-31 win. The Ravens have been to the Super Bowl two times and have a 2-0 record in the big game.
These wins have solidified the Ravens’ place in NFL history and continue to be cherished by fans as unforgettable chapters in the team’s storied legacy.
Super Bowl XXXV: Raven Ruckus in Tampa
The Super Bowl XXXV was a Baltimore Ravens defensive masterclass. The New York Giants never stood a chance against a generationally talented defense. A force of nature like no other.
Coached by Brian Billick and led by Ray Lewis, the Ravens destroyed the Giants 34-7. They forced five turnovers and recorded four sacks en route to an absolute shellacking of the New York-based team.
The QB, Trent Dilfer, managed the game beautifully as he threw for 153 yards and one touchdown. However, the star of the show was Lewis. He had three tackles, a couple of assists, and four pass deflections en route to winning the Super Bowl MVP. RB Jamal Lewis had 27 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown. It was a total demolition job as the Ravens announced themselves to the football world in style.
It took the Ravens another 12 years to reach the Super Bowl, but this win established them as a strong franchise. They did reach the playoffs after that, in the mid-2000s, but failed to reach the Super Bowl. However, the first one is always remembered, and this was a historic achievement for a team that was founded just four years ago.
Super Bowl XLVII: The Harbowl Showdown
The year is 2012. John Harbaugh is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. His brother, Jim Harbaugh, is the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. So the football gods decided to pull off a masterstroke and gave the football world a Super Bowl that would go down in history as the Harbaugh Bowl. Yes, the Harbaughs met in the Super Bowl as the Ravens and the Niners faced off in a dramatic showdown.
So the game had everything. The Ravens jumped out to a 28-6 lead after Jacoby Jones returned the kickoff for a 108-yard touchdown. And then the drama began. The Super Bowl was held at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Then came the “Super Bowl blackout,” a surreal interruption that had everyone questioning if Beyoncé‘s halftime show had short-circuited the stadium. The delay added an extra layer of drama. Play was suspended for 34 minutes. Once that was sorted out, the Niners went on a run. They scored 17 unanswered points to cut the Ravens’ lead to just five.
With the Ravens leading 34-29 late in the game, they drove down the field to the Ravens’ 7-yard line just before the two-minute warning. However, they turned the ball over on downs, and that pretty much ended the game. The Ravens took an intentional safety and ran out the clock to win their second Super Bowl, 34-31. It was a fantastic game, with the Ravens’ QB Joe Flacco winning the Super Bowl MVP. He tallied 287 yards and three touchdowns.
The Ravens had not only won their second Super Bowl, but they had also given the NFL a show that went beyond football; the “Harbowl” had made a lasting impression as confetti showered down in the Superdome.
