The week 16 Thursday Night Football matchup will take place between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. Both these teams have had a difficult season. The Rams won the Super Bowl in 2021 but weren’t able to sustain that and their next two seasons have been marred by injuries.
The Saints on the other hand lost their veteran Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton to retirement after the 2021 season. Since then, the Saints have been trying to find their footing in the league with new HC Dennis Allen.
Rams came into the season on the back of a poor 2022 campaign. They lost key players to injuries after winning the Super Bowl the previous year and finished the season 5-12. They were expected to have an improved season this year but so far, they haven’t lit the NFL on fire. The Rams are 7-7 through 14 games of the season.
New Orleans entered this campaign with a new quarterback- Derek Carr. They signed Carr in the offseason and were expected to make some noise this season with an improved roster. However, they have struggled to do so and have a similar record to that of the Rams.
Although the Saints won their previous matchup against the Rams in November last year, they have lost five of their last eight games. In their last game, QB Andy Dalton had a great performance against the Rams and led the team to a 27-20 win. He finished with 260 yards with three touchdowns.

Stafford’s primary target this season has been the rookie sensation Puka Nacua. The receiver has caught 87 passes for 1,163 receiving yards so far this season. The fifth-round pick of this year’s draft has racked up five 100-yard performances this season. Veteran receiver Cooper Kupp is back to playing great football after a slow start to the season. He has 100-yard performances in his last two games.
Why the New Orleans Saints can win?
The Saints’ defense has been great in the last two weeks. They have held their opponents to a pair of field goals in each of their last two games. They will hope to do the same against an improved Rams offense. The Saints rank sixth in the league against the pass as they have allowed only 185.4 passing yards this season. They are fifth in interceptions and ninth in total takeaways with 14 and 22 respectively.
Saints’ QB Derek Carr has thrown five touchdown passes in his last two games. He only made one in his three games before that. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon had three sacks against the New York Giants in their last game. Receiver Chris Olave has a chance to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the season on Thursday against the Rams.
