“I wouldn’t pause for a second” Colin Cowherd believes Carson Wentz is still a great NFL quarterback

Carson Wentz is now 4 seasons removed from his MVP caliber campaign in 2017. Since then he hasn’t been anywhere near that level of play which prompted the Eagles to trade him to the Colts for a conditional first-rounder in 2022 and a 2021 third-rounder.
Since that trade, Carson Wentz started all 17 games for Indianapolis and threw for 3563 yards, 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. It’s not the flashiest start to his tenure with the Colts but still solid nonetheless.
Despite his play, the Colts went 9-8 including a crucial week 18 loss to the Jaguars that ensured that they wouldn’t make the playoffs this year. That loss and missing the playoffs has created a lot of criticism and now it seems that he’s on his way out of Indy. Colin Cowherd, however, believes Wentz is far from done.
Colin Cowherd is convinced that Carson Wentz has more in the tank
On a segment of his show, ‘The Herd’, Colin Cowherd was quoted saying “So, Carson Wentz is on the market. To me, that feels like Jim Irsay is in one of his moods. Everybody because of how the season ended says Carson Wentz is no good. You were defending him during the season for a reason. He wasn’t the problem.
Cowherd further added “This is not a good a receiving core and it’s not a good tight end room. They don’t have a dominant #1 receiver. They have Michael Pittman. He’s a great #2, probably not a #1. TY Hilton is about to retire. Also, they faced the NFC west so they played some tough out of division and conference games.”
Specifically, about Carson Wentz, Cowherd said “Carson Wentz had 27 TDs and 7 picks. I would take him tomorrow in Pittsburgh, I would take him tomorrow in Denver. I wouldn’t pause for a second. He’s not 40 million a year. You guys were all banging on him in Indianapolis. Don’t kid yourself. You were defending him all year.”
Carson Wentz certainly wasn’t his 2017 self that some believed he would be having reunited with Frank Reich. However, he still was a solid starting quarterback which, while that isn’t brilliant, is still a sign of stability. The Colts wanting to move on from him shows a severe lack of patience which may not benefit them in the long run.
