Football fans who became excited picturing Matthew Stafford in the New York Giants colors need to settle down because the latest development might disappoint them. The Giants were reportedly ready to offer the third overall pick in exchange for the Super Bowl winner and carve out a couple of years.

Veteran FOX analyst Colin Cowherd first reported that the Giants were ready to give up the chance to sign either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward for Stafford. However, Stafford’s wife Kelly might pose a slight resistance.

However, Adam Schefter dismissed any scenario where the Giants will give up their third overall pick. According to the ESPN insider, the offer was never on the table. Stafford wants to continue with the Rams. The Giants or any other team will only come into the picture if they don’t agree on an extension.

Let me be very clear—that pick is not in the conversation if Matthew Stafford and the Rams can’t get a deal worked out, and if Matthew Stafford becomes available and all of a sudden the Giants surface as a contender.

Adam Schefter told Pat Leonard of New York Daily News

Stafford led the Rams to a 10-7 finish in 2024. In the postseason, they defeated the 14-3 Minnesota Vikings in the wild card but lost to eventual Super Bowl winners, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hall of Famer believes Kelly Stafford to play a big part in the Matthew Stafford to Giants saga

Stafford has a cap hit of $49.6 million for the 2025 season. A monetary burden that the Rams would love to take off their shoulder if they can, but they need to negotiate with the Giants.

That’s one obstacle in the rumored deal, and the other one is Kelly. Former NFL tight end and Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, who is well acquainted with the Stafford family, revealed on his Nightcap podcast that Kelly believes the Rams are being disrespectful to her husband.

Here is the thing. What did I tell you when you say something and you got a significant other or a family member to say something? Where does the team, where does that fanbase, think that’s coming from?

Shannon Sharpe told co-host Chad Johnson

Matthew and Kelly are well-settled in LA with their four daughters. Moving from sunny Cali to New York doesn’t always feel like an exciting project considering they have been part of a team in a similar situation as the Giants before.

Stafford was drafted by the Detroit Lions, where he spent twelve seasons before leaving for the Rams. In those campaigns, the 37-year-old established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in franchise history despite playing just three playoff games, losing every one of them.

Unless the Giants offer an exciting contract, then perhaps Kelly might advise him against the move and try his luck in free agency. Maybe Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders can swoop in and sign the 2xPro Bowler.
