“It’s a good idea to…” Sean Payton reveals a shocking detail about Mike McCarthy’s future with the Dallas Cowboys

Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton
Sean Payton ended his historical 16-year tenure with the New Orleans Saints in January of this year as he resigned from his head coaching spot. Naturally, speculation began to arise about where he could possibly go for 2022.
Amongst the top contenders for Payton are the Dallas Cowboys. After failing to do anything in the playoffs once again, rumors started flying around that they would replace Mike McCarthy after his two seasons.
Dallas fell victim to the San Francisco 49ers in their home wild card game this season. It was truly a gut-wrenching loss as this was a team that seemed poised to make a run at the Super Bowl. However, in that game, they were outcoached and outclassed throughout. A couple of late game mistakes by the Niners is what allowed the 23-17 final score, but they never really in the game.
After that appalling performance, the Cowboys seemed set to bring in a new head coach and Payton would’ve been top of the list. However, Sean Payton seems to see it differently from his point of view.
Sean Payton claims he isn’t going for the Dallas head coaching position

When asked if he’s talked to Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton recently told ‘Pro Football Talk’ “You know what, it’s a good idea because I felt like it took place for a while with Jason Garrett, a good friend of mine who I coached with at the Giants. I consider Mike someone who’s a close friend too.”
Payton further added “Mike’s done it long enough. We both entered the league as head coaches in the same year in ’06. We’re of the same age and we’re of the same background. I’m his big fan, and I think he’s one of those guys who’s a fantastic coach.”
While Payton told reporters that he is unaware of what is next for his football life, it seems as though the Dallas Cowboys are not a part of his plans. Letting McCarthy know that he won’t be taking his spot will ease the burden on McCarthy’s shoulders as he focuses on the offseason and making the Cowboys a more well-rounded team for 2022.
That being said, Jerry Jones wants Sean Payton. If he feels that he can bring Payton in place of McCarthy, he will go all out to make it happen. And when the money’s on the table, who knows how Payton will feel then.
