The Washington-Eagles game witnessed history on Tuesday night. Jennifer King becomes the first African-American female position coach. Despite being in a male-dominated game, King has managed to create her mark in the NFL. King joined the Washington Football Team in the 2020 season as a coaching intern. Last year she was promoted to the team’s assistant running backs coach position.

Head coach Ron Rivera said, “Coach King is well deserving of the promotion to assistant running backs coach. She came to Washington eager for the opportunity to work as a full-year coaching intern and learn from our staff,”.

“She demonstrated all of the qualities that are needed to work full-time on my staff. She is a hard worker, a great communicator and a quality person. Coach King is always eager to learn and has shown tremendous growth since starting here last season. The sky is truly the limit for her.”

As a part of Washington’s COVID outbreak, running backs head coach Randy Jordan was not available for Tuesday’s game along with seven other assistant coaches. This gave King the opportunity to serve as Washington’s running backs coach making her the first African-American female position coach in NFL history.

However, King is not the only female assistant coach. Apart from King, Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant defensive line coach Lori Locust is one of the two female assistant coaches.
