Jerome Boger and officials from the Bengals-Raiders game won’t be officiating in the postseason anymore

Jerome Boger
Referee Jerome Boger and the rest of the officials that worked in the AFC Wild Card game that took place between Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals are not expected to officiate again this postseason after their questionable performance on Saturday.
Officials are graded after each game by the NFL and Boger and his crew is sure to receive bad grades. The league usually takes officials assigned to the divisional round, to work the Super Bowl. This is definitely not in the cards for Jerome Boger and his crew.
Bengals received a free touchdown due to Jerome Boger’s confusion
Boger’s crew ruled that a whistle occurred after Cincinnati’s Tyler Boyd caught a touchdown from Joe Burrow although replays appeared to show otherwise. Bengals QB, Joe Burrow rolled right to avoid pressure and threw from close to the sideline. Play continued despite an erroneous whistle by an official, who thought Burrow stepped out of bounds. Boyd caught the 10-yard TD pass in the back of the endzone.
One league source was not surprised at Boger’s performance. Many around the league have commented on Boegr’s controversial performance during various points of the season. The NFL has received mixed reviews for mixing its officiating crews in postseason games, taking officials from different crews, and assigning them to work together.
“Whistle was not blown before ball was caught”: Jerome Boger and his crew were perplexed as they could not determine what happened

NFL senior vice president of officiating Walt Anderson said after the game that Boger and his crew “did not feel that the whistle was blown before the receiver caught the ball.”
“We confirmed with the referee and the crew that on that play — they got together and talked — they determined that they had a whistle, but that the whistle for them on the field was blown after the receiver caught the ball,” Anderson said.
There have been many instants this season regarding the official’s performance. There have been unnecessary penalties given, biased tauntings, to name a few. NFL has to make sure that teams don’t suffer due to officials’ mistakes. An error in judgment by the officials in the Cowboys-49ers game has cost Dallas a chance at a comeback.
