“I’ve never wanted a tie so bad” Justin Herbert laments on cameras during Chargers’ 35-32 loss against Raiders

The Los Angeles Chargers came out on the wrong side of fate in the final game of the regular season, as they suffered a final-minute 35-32 defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders. Justin Herbert and the Chargers went into this fixture hoping for a tie or a victory, which would have carried them into the playoff rounds.
Both the Chargers and the Raiders could have made it into the playoffs had they played out a tie. However, as fate had it, they shot themselves in the foot and succumbed to the heart wrenching to end their campaign for this season.
Justin Herbert did not get his wish granted as the Chargers were eliminated in the final seconds
Chargers’ coach called for a late time out with only 40 seconds remaining in OT and it eventually led to the Raiders scoring the winning touchdown through Daniel Carson.
During the timeout, the cameras caught Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert say something interesting. The second-year quarterback and last season’s offensive rookie of the year seemed to say, “I’ve never wanted a tie so bad,” referring to the result which he direly wanted out of their ongoing match against the Raiders.
Raiders’ quarterback, Derek Carr later revealed after the match, that the untimely time-out from the Chargers motivated them, even more, to come out with a victory and not just play out a tie, which could have carried both these teams into the playoffs.
Despite the fact that Justin Herbert will not feature in the playoffs, the 23-year old yet another shone the brightest for his side. He made 64 throws, which was a season-high and finished with 383 yards and three touchdowns in the eventual defeat.
