The NFL trade deadline is officially over! Multiple teams have made some strong moves to strengthen their rosters. One of the biggest winners in the trade market is the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners, who already boast one of the best defensive units in the league, have now added the former Washington Commanders pass rusher Chase Young to their stacked roster.
According to multiple reports, the 49ers acquired Young from the Commanders in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick on Thursday in a massive trade. Young has been the most productive pass rusher for the Washington-based football team. And adding him to the already-stacked Niners team is a concern for the other NFC contenders.

The Niners already have Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, and Javon Hargrave in their defensive line. Now, plugging Chase Young into that lineup has made them almost unstoppable. It is a matchup nightmare for the opposing teams. Besides, Young will join the team in a perfect time as they are trying to regroup in their bye week after losing three games in a row.
Chase Young is entering the final year of his rookie deal and the Commanders haven’t picked up his fifth-year option due to injury concerns. Young will become a free agent after this season. Still, a solid pass rusher like the former Pro Bowl defensive lineman is a great addition for the Niners even if it’s for just half a season, especially for the price they gave up.
Young was drafted as the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He had a great rookie season when he registered 7.5 sacks and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
After that impressive campaign, he played only 12 games in the next 2 seasons as injuries halted his career. Now, he was having a great season with the Commanders as he registered 5 sacks in 7 games. That number will see a massive surge when he starts to play alongside Bosa and Armstead.
Social media reacts to 49ers trading for Chase Young
NFL fans on social media couldn’t believe the 49ers managed to rope in Chase Young, one of the most productive pass rushers in this season. The Niners managed to acquire Young in a trade with the Commanders just ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday.

On the Commanders’ side, it seems like the Washington-based football team is entering full-on rebuild mode. Along with Young, they also traded away their other star pass rusher, Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears, in exchange for a 2024 second-rounder.

The Commanders got new ownership just a few months ago, and now they will enter a rebuilding phase. It looks like they could potentially make some changes in their coaching and management staff.
