“Similar to Davante in his rookie year”: Aaron Rodgers makes a BLASPHEMOUS comparison between Christian Watson and Davante Adams

Aaron Rodgers sees a lot of Davante Adams in rookie Christian Watson

The top NFL players do not always get drafted high in the draft, some of them are diamonds in the rough as they fall to the second round or later and tend to become Pro Bowlers and first-team players due to their work ethic and talent. Davante Adams is one such example, the wideout was drafted in 2014 in the second round of the draft, and he has since then become the best wideout in the NFL

The chemistry between Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams was something special, it was like seeing Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as the duo was perfectly in-sync with one another all the time. However, Adams is no longer a Green Bay Packer, he has now become a Las Vegas Raider. After his departure, the Packers attempted to fill the void left by him with rookie wideouts, Christian Watson is one of them.

“He’s got special speed”: Aaron Rodgers sees a lot of potential in rookie WR Christian Wilson.

Aaron Rodgers believes Christian Watson is special like Davante Adams.

Christian Watson was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the rookie has had a slow start to his career but he has not been bad or terrible as he has caught a total of 6 passes for 51 yards in total and he has also scored a rushing touchdown in the Packers win against the New England Patriots.

Despite this mediocre start, quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a lot of praise for Christian Watson, he compared him to Davante Adams in his rookie year. On the Pat McAfee Show, here is what Rodgers had to say about Watson. “Looks, I tell you, he’s got special speed. He really does. He’s got incredible stride length. When you watch some of the film back, it’s similar to watching Davante in his rookie year. You know there were games where I didn’t give Davante a ton of looks, but you go back and watch the film, and you’re thinking, ‘Man, this guy is open often.’ It’s like that from time to time with Christian.”

Aaron continues, “There’s a few routes, I mean not as much as Davante, I just think Davante was a little more polished route-runner as a rookie, but there are a few times where I might need to give him a second look even when things don’t look great from the start because he does have that different type of speed. But we’re finding ways to use him, I think, and again, we have to have patience.”

In Davante Adams’s rookie season, the Packers were dealing with an injured receiver core with Jordy Nelson and a young Randall Cobb as the primary targets, Davante was not the go-to target that season and he did not put up monster numbers like is used to putting up now. In his first season, he played in 12 games in which he never exceeded more than 2 receptions per game.

Christian Watson has a similar story as well, he was out for Week 3 against the Buccaneers as he was injured and over the course of 3 games, he has 10 receptions in total. With 18 snaps in the Packers’ Week 4 victory, the team has now been attempting to draw up plays that can put the ball in Watson’s hands. His speed is his biggest asset and as we saw, in the Week 4 game, he ran a beautiful jet sweep to perfection ending the play with a 15-yard touchdown.

Comparing him to Adams may seem far-fetched now but if anyone knows anything about talent, it is Rodgers, he knows how to spot great players and if he sees something in Watson then it is because there is a lot of talent and potential in that young man. However, if he were to live up to his true potential, he has a lot of work to do in the coming seasons.

The Green Bay Packers have started the season off on a bumpy note. Aaron Rodgers is still getting used to playing with his new teammates and is still developing chemistry with them, however, the team seems to be getting things together as they have a good record of 3-1. The team will travel to London this weekend to face the New York Giants in the NFL’s UK Games.
