The 10-time Pro Bowl QB Aaron Rodgers made his much anticipated New York Jets debut in their 4th and final preseason game against the New York Giants in front of the MetLife crowd. The Jets won the game 32-24 and their fans also got to see Rodgers’ special as he connected with wide receiver Garrett Wilson for his first touchdown in the Jets colors.
During the 1st quarter of the game, the Jets were facing 1st and 10 from the Giants’ 14-yard line. Rodgers made an impressive fade throw to the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, who completed a tough catch for the game’s first touchdown. Furthermore, it was Rodgers’ first touchdown in a Jets uniform. The Jets fans just got a glimpse of the Rodgers-Wilson connection and will certainly get to see more of it in the upcoming season.
The veteran quarterback just played 2 series before hitting the sidelines. He will now wait for the Jets’ regular season opener to get back onto the field. In the game, Rodgers completed 5 of his 8 passes for 47 yards and 1 touchdown. The 39-year-old looked sharp in the brief playing minutes he got and got the ball out quickly.
The Jets’ offensive line struggled against the Giants’ defense, but Rodgers managed to get out of the game without any injuries. Besides Rodgers, the Jets’ second-string quarterback Zach Wilson and third-string QB Tim Boyle also had a solid game. Wilson completed 11 of his 18 passes for 107 yards while Boyle completed 9 of his 11 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Social media reacts to Aaron Rodgers first Jets touchdown
Fans on social media were hyped after seeing Aaron Rodgers’ impressive touchdown pass to the second-year wide receiver Garrett Wilson on Saturday. Check out some of the reactions below.
On the business side of things, the Jets roped in the veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers to address their needs at the QB position. Rodgers is now looking to regain his old MVP form with his new team.
Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs in the 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons. But last year, Rodgers’ production had a dip due to a finger injury and the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs because of it.
This year, however, Rodgers is healthy and has better offensive weapons than last season. But the concern is the Jets’ offensive line. The Jets O-line struggled a lot last year, and the franchise hasn’t made any moves to address it.
So, the Jets’ offensive lines need to play well for Aaron Rodgers to perform at a high level. If they fail to perform, even the 4-time league MVP can’t help the Jets to reach the postseason in 2023.
