Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers lost to the Detroit Lions and will not make the trip to the playoffs this season. Furthermore, some of the QB’s actions after the game have reignited his retirement rumors.
Before the start of the 2022 season, Rodgers was rumored to leave Green Bay and join some other team. He put a stop to the rumors in March when he signed a three-year, $150 million contract extension with the Packers. However, this season didn’t turn out the way both parties would’ve hoped and now the retirement and trade rumors have already begun.
Even before the Lions’ game, Rodgers received heavy criticism from many people, including his long-time fan Stephen A. Smith, for fueling the retirement rumors at a crucial time. And now after the game, the long walk through the tunnel with his long-time teammate Randall Cobb has fans speculating about his retirement yet again. Moreover, his answer to his former teammate and now Lions RB Jamaal Williams‘ jersey request has left fans in a dire state. “I gotta hold on to this one,” said Rodgers to Jamaal Williams.
Amidst all this, the veteran quarterback has broken his silence on retirement while addressing the media. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Rodgers said he needs time to take the emotion out of it before making any decision on his future.

Answering a reporter’s question about when will he make his decision, Rodgers replied that he needs some time while implying that he will make a decision before free agency.
“It’s a little raw right now,” Rodgers said in the press conference. “It’s just a little bit after the game, so (I) want to take the emotion out of it and have conversations and see where the organization’s at and see how I feel after some time has passed.”
The reigning also talked in depth about when he believe he would step away from the game. “I think I need to get away and contemplate those things,” Rodgers said. “I have a lot of pride in what I’ve accomplished in this league, but I’m also a realist and I understand where we’re at as a team. We’re a young team. There could be some changes to some of the older guys and it could be time to step away. But I could take some time and say, ‘Oh, no, man, I need to get back out there and go on another run.’ But I’ll have to see what it feels like once I’m away from it.”
Rodgers was drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. During his seventeen-year NFL career, Rodgers has won all major accomplishments in the league, including the Super Bowl. The four-time NFL MVP will surely go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to throw the spiral.
