The most talked about topic in the league right now apart from the Super Bowl is the trade destination for Aaron Rodgers. After the 39-year-old’s failed attempt to take the Green Bay Packers to the playoffs, there have been talks about his retirement or possibly exit from the only team he’s ever played for in his 18-year career in the NFL.
The 4x league MVP signed a three-year $150 million contract extension last year with Green Bay and now he is looking to jump ship and move on to a new team. Speculations have been going on about where he is possibly going to play in 2023. NFL legend and former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath said that he would gladly ask the organization to unretire his No.12 jersey so that Rodgers can wear it, adding more to the trade talks.
This much is final that the Packers don’t want him back. After leading the team for 18 years, all either Green Bay or Aaron Rodgers have shown is one Super Bowl and four conference championship losses. Now it looks like the Packers have their fill handling Rodgers’ eccentricities and tantrums over the years as they have expressed their wish to trade him exclusively to the AFC and make Jordan Love their starting quarterback going forward.
Aaron Rodgers continues to speculate about his landing spot for 2023
With the offseason just a few days away, Aaron Rodgers was seen having the time of his life playing golf at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament. Fans at the tournament watching the elite quarterback make holes have suggested more than a few team names for his 19th season in the league. “A lot of people are yelling different teams they want me to come to next year which has been fun,” Rodgers said during an interview with a CBS reporter at the tournament.
Most Raiders fans want Aaron Rodgers to come to Las Vegas and reunite with his favorite receiver, Davante Adams. With the Las Vegas Raiders parting ways with Derek Carr, the club is in need of a new quarterback and fans want Rodgers to be the new signal-caller. A fan even had a hilarious exchange with the veteran quarterback about a possible move to Las Vegas.
“Hey Aaron, I heard Davante is looking for a neighbor, bro,” the fan said, to which Rodgers replied, “Tell him to buy me a house with all that money.” Last year when the Packers paid their quarterback a $50 million per year salary, they had to let go of the best receiver in the league – Davante Adams. The 30-year-old receiver refused to play on the franchise tag and asked to be paid handsomely. Green Bay had to let him go since they had maxed out their salary cap trying to keep Rodgers.
The Raiders acquired Adams in March 2022 and signed a five-year, $141.25 million deal, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league at the time of signing. Las Vegas is loaded with weapons on their offense and adding Aaron Rodgers to that unit will make them a formidable team and, if they mesh, will be a Super Bowl contender as well. It’ll be interesting to see if the front office also feels the same way as fans do or if they don’t want to go all in with Rodgers who just might retire after a year.
