Just a few days ago, the New York Jets finally made a decision to bench their former second-overall pick Zach Wilson amidst their constant offensive struggles. The team announced Tim Boyle will take over as the starting QB. And now, Aaron Rodgers — who has been an avid Wilson supporter from day 1 — has disclosed that he has some personal guilt over Wilson being benched in New York.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers discussed the Jets’ tough decision to bench their young quarterback in favor of the undrafted signal-caller Boyle.

Obviously, this is disappointing. I have some personal guilt around the whole thing. I’m pissed I wasn’t able to play and frustrated. If I was out there, I’d feel like we were playing well.

Furthermore, Rodgers went on to talk about how the narrative around Zach Wilson and the Jets would be different if he kept playing for the New York-based football team as planned. Rodgers — who was acquired by the Jets in the 2023 off-season — suffered an Achilles injury in the Jets’ first game of the season, forcing Wilson to take over the team.

There would obviously be different narratives about our team and Zach would have the opportunity to learn and grow and see what it looks like without the pressure on and being able to sit in those meetings and go through the season and just watch me and my process. So, I’m disappointed and sad about that.

Rodgers believes his injury, which forced Wilson to take over, has resulted in a disaster situation for both Wilson and the Jets. The 39-year-old quarterback is still in rehab and is looking to return to the team in mid-December. But seeing how badly the team has performed under Wilson, many want Rodgers to skip the 2023 season to get fully healthy before resuming his in the 2024 season.

Tim Boyle — who signed with the Jets earlier this year — is set to take over the Jets’ starting quarterback role. Amidst this, Aaron Rodgers claims he and the Jets will support Boyle in his new role.

We’re all going to support Tim and move forward. But we’re also going to put our arms around Zach and love on him because he’s a great kid. And it’s not all his fault. And this is the way it goes sometimes

The Jets are currently holding a 4-6 record. They are still in the hunt for a postseason spot, but if Boyle can’t perform at a high level, then there is no hope for the New York-based franchise till Rodgers returns to the field.
