Aaron Rodgers, who has been aggressively recovering from his Achilles injury has always indicated that he will return to the field in the ongoing season. But for the first time now, Rodgers has pumped the breaks on his retirement just days after the New York Jets officially got eliminated from postseason contention.

During Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers made his weekly appearance and opened up about his potential return to the field. He hinted that he won’t take the field in the ongoing season.

It was unrealistic to think that I would be 100 percent medically cleared at any point during the regular season. I do feel like in the next three to four weeks, it would be very possible to get to 100 percent. It was never a question whether I should play if I was 100 perce

The 39-year-old quarterback always said that he is planning to return this season. Just a few days ago, reports suggested that Rodgers could be medically cleared to play in the Jets’ week 16 game. But it seems, the Jets getting eliminated from playoffs led to a change of mind in Rodgers’ camp.

Today, I’d definitely push to play [if the team was in contention]. I’ve been working hard to get closer to that. [Wednesday] is 14 weeks from my surgery.

The veteran signal-caller further said he always targeted the Jets’ week 16 game against the Washington Commanders as the potential return date. Rodgers further went on to say that if the Jets had won their week 15 game against the Miami Dolphins, he would’ve certainly pushed to play.

Social media reacts to Aaron Rodgers’ new stance on return

NFL fans on social media brutally trolled Aaron Rodgers for saying it was impossible for him to just recover from an Achilles injury in 14 weeks. Many have been saying the same thing from the beginning, but Rodgers kept implying he will make a quick unprecedented recovery.

Furthermore, people believe that the Jets quarterback did everything after injury just for his publicity and attention. Check out some of the reactions attached below.

Nonetheless, it seems like Rodgers won’t be returning to the field this season since there are just 3 games left. The Jets would look to start Zach Wilson for the rest of the games and increase his trade value. Rodgers, who confirmed that 2024 won’t be his last season will take over the team next season.
