Aaron Rodgers has taken to his new franchise, the New York Jets, like a fish to water. The 39-year-old has not played a game for the Jets yet, but he’s already defending the franchise off the field. Rodgers snapped back at Denver Broncos‘ new head coach Sean Payton for making inappropriate comments about Jets’ offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett.
Former NFL quarterback turned analyst Dan Orlovsky hailed Aaron Rodgers for showing his leadership skills at his new franchise. Orlovsky claimed that Rodgers’ stern response to Sean Payton spoke a lot about the quarterback’s character.
“Aaron Rodgers has not taken over this team, he’s taken over this organization. This has become Aaron Rodgers’ organization in a short period of time. Not only is he gonna be incredibly motivated with the chip on his shoulder, he now is basically grabbing every single teammate, coach … I got your back, like I’m going to be the face of all of this. Just follow me,” Orlovsky said on the popular ESPN show GetUp.

Dan Orlovsky also feels that the former Packers quarterback is trying to come out of the negative image. Rodgers only has one target in mind, which is to win the Super Bowl, and Orlovsky feels that he’ll do everything to achieve that goal this season.
“I think for everything that has been said about this guy’s character over the last 2 years in the media, we’re seeing a very different vantage point and this is now his organization and that’s a big deal when you’re trying to win a Super Bowl,” Orlovsky concluded.
Payton recently called out Nathaniel Hackett for his abysmal tenure as the head coach of the Broncos in 2022. The current Broncos HC did not stop there and called it one of the worst coaching stints in NFL history. This did not sit well with Rodgers, who issued a statement in the media defending Hackett’s honor, urging Payton to keep his “coaches’ names out of his mouth.”
“It made me feel bad that someone who has accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down to set themselves up for some easy fall if it doesn’t go well for that team this year,” Rodgers told NFL+ after practice. “I think it was way out of line, inappropriate. I think he needs to keep my coaches’ names out of his mouth.”
Aaron Rodgers’ relationship with Nathaniel Hackett dates back to their Green Bay Packers days when they spent a couple of seasons together. Rodgers won back-to-back MVP awards in 2020 and 2021, both of which came during Hackett’s tenure.
