On Friday, the Michigan State Spartans opened their 2023 college football season with a matchup against the Central Michigan Chippewas. Spartans ended up winning their first game comfortably as the finals scores read 31-7. During the game, the Spartans suffered some injury issues as one of their wide receivers, Alante Brown, passed out on the field.

During the opening kickoff of the game, receiver Alante Brown was on blocking duty and was hit hard by a Chippewas special teams player. After the brutal hit, Brown passed out on the field and lost consciousness. The medical staff and the Spartans’ head coach Mel Tucker rushed to the field to attend Brown, and he was carted off the field for further treatment.

In a remarkable way, Brown returned to the sidelines in uniform and even came back to the game after evaluation by the Michigan State’s medical professionals. The wide receiver returned a kick for 16 yards after Central Michigan scored their only touchdown of the game. Brown was taken off the field shortly.

He spent most of the second half of the game on the sidelines wearing street clothes. After the game ended, Brown took to social media to give an update on his health. “Appreciate the prayers, I’m all good! I’ll see y’all next Saturday,” wrote Brown on his Instagram story. It was a scary few moments for Brown, but he seems to be in good health now. He is expected to play in the Spartans’ week 2 game against the Richmond Spiders next weekend.

The Michigan State Spartans sending Alante Brown back into the game after he was carted off the field angered many people. Football fans were furious after the Spartans risked further injuries to the player.

During the post-game press conference, Michigan State’s head coach Mel Tucker clarified his decision to send back Alante Brown. He said that both sending him back into the field and pulling him out of the game were “medical decisions.”

“He was cleared to come back and then we took him out,” the head coach said in the post-game conference. “Those are medical decisions and I support those 100 percent. It’s all about the safety of the players. He’s in good spirits, and so we’re just happy about that.”

This is the second big mishap Mel Tucker has faced in the last two seasons. Last year, Tucker’s leadership came under question after the Spartans player attacked one of the Michigan Wolverines players in tunnel following a loss.

The Spartans avoided a major injury scare. Last year, Michigan State’s campaign was riddled with injuries. This time they would like to avoid any big injuries to their players.
