“We made Baker Mayfield look way better than he was”: NFL analyst claims Mayfield NEVER lived up to the expectations

Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield has been in the news for a lot of reasons in recent times. The man has been through a really tough phase and it appears that his time for redemption is finally here. Baker felt disrespected by the Browns after they went madly behind Deshaun and completely disregarded him.

There might have been a chance of the Browns giving him another go after Deshaun’s legal troubles started posing big problems for the Cleveland-based franchise. However, Baker had no interest in playing for them and eventually, he was traded to the Panthers.

Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson

While many are happy for Baker and are of the opinion that the man finally has the chance to prove his worth, several experts have pointed out that Mayfield has been traded to the worst possible franchise where he will end up facing even more difficulties.

Talking about the same on the Speak for Yourself podcast, Marcellus Willey had a few things to say. He claimed that this trade is no way a success for Mayfield. “Let’s just build this one slowly. Okay. What were the expectations? I think it’s the best way to enter this conversation. The root word of expectation is expect.

“What did you expect from a number one overall pick? At least, for him to get a second contract? Okay, what do we expect from our number one overall pick? At least, make us real contenders. He won one playoff game. You made a two look like a 10. You made Baker Mayfield look way better than he does.”

“Here’s the thing. The Cleveland Browns. He didn’t pass the baton to Deshaun Watson. Deshaun had to run backwards,” he stated. Indeed, Baker had a lot to prove in the coming season and needless to say, it won’t be easy. The Panthers have also been through a lot and if Baker fails to do the needful, they might go down even further.
