The Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones continues his holdout and hasn’t reported to the Chiefs training camp yet. The Chiefs’ 2023 campaign is set to start in just a few days with a game against the Detroit Lions on September 7. Amidst this tense situation, the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid opens up about Jones’ decision to sit out.

In a recent press conference during the Chiefs’ training camp, head coach Andy Reid was asked by the reporters whether or not Chris Jones would play in the season opener against the Lions. Reid didn’t give a definitive answer.

“I can’t tell you,” Reid told reporters on Sunday.“I don’t know, I don’t know what his agenda is, whether he’s coming or not coming. We’re rolling right now, I haven’t put that much thought into that part.”

Furthermore, Andy Reid went on to say that he doesn’t focus on the contract stuff and is busy training whoever is in the building. If Jones doesn’t show up to the training camp, then it’s next man up, implied Reid.

“You deal with too many people on this type of thing. So these things can go either direction. Again, I don’t spend a lot of time on it,” said Reid. “Now we’re getting ready to play a game. You’re either here or not here. That’s how I go about it.”

Andy Reid’s reality check to Jones comes just a few days after the defensive tackle fueled the Dallas Cowboys trade rumors. Jones liked a post on social media from a Cowboys fan who said Dallas would be the best fit for Jones and theorized a trade scenario between the Chiefs and the Cowboys.

While the veteran head coach Andy Reid said that he doesn’t focus on Jones’ holdout, the Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made a plea for the defensive tackle to stop his holdout and come back to the camp.

During the recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Tavis asked Jones to stop scaring him with the holdout and report back to the camp. On the flip side, Jason Kelce jokingly advised Jones to continue his holdout at least till week 11, when the Chiefs are scheduled to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nonetheless, Chris Jones made a decision and is standing by it. He has already accumulated approximately $2 million in fines for missing training camp and will lose around a million dollars for every single regular season game he misses.
