The Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury in the second quarter of their week 5 game against the Tennessee Titans. As a result, he missed the Colts’ week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Amidst this situation, the Colts owner Jim Irsay has given an update on Richardson’s return to the field.

During a recent interview with ESPN, the Colts owner Irsay discussed Richardson’s shoulder injury and revealed that the young quarterback is strongly considering a season-ending surgery on his throwing shoulder, which would most likely rule out Richardson for the remainder of the season.

“The most likelihood is he’s probably going to be gone for the year,” Irsay told ESPN. “I mean, it’s not definite but [he] probably misses this year and we’re going to have to contend with that factor.”

Irsay further revealed that the team is consulting multiple specialist doctors and is having a debate about whether or not Richardson should undergo the surgery not. It seems like everything is trending toward Richardson getting surgery done on his right shoulder.

“There’s debate going, but it’s probably going to lead toward surgery in the next week or so,” Irsay said. “We’re just trying to figure out exactly how and when and what we want to do and what Anthony wants to do.”

The Colts spent the last week and a half getting medical advice from top doctors and no final decision has been made so far. Jim Irsay reportedly said that the final decision would be up to Anthony Richardson, but the organization is reportedly taking a very cautious approach with the quarterback’s long-term future in mind.

A final decision on this issue is expected to be made in a few days, but everything is trending in the direction of Richardson undergoing the surgery and missing the remainder of the ongoing NFL season.

Anthony Richardson was having a good start to his rookie season

The Indianapolis-based football team selected Anthony Richardson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was then thrown straight into the fire in week 1 itself and was having a good start to his rookie season.

Richardson registered 713 scrimmage yards, 7 total touchdowns, and only 1 interception in the 4 games he played. But unfortunately, injuries have already been a major part of his young career.

He suffered a knee injury in the Colts’ week 1 game and was knocked out of their week 2 game with a concussion. Just when it looked like he recovered from those injuries, Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder in their week 5 game and might miss the rest of the season.
