This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers made many shocking decisions, but the one that stood out was releasing defensive end Arik Armstead, who had been dedicated to the Niners for nine years. Shortly after his exit, he landed a lucrative contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, neither the franchise nor the defensive end gave any justifying reason for his departure from the 49ers following the Super Bowl loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. Even until now, when Armstead finally opened up about what drove him out of San Francisco.
It’s shocking to even think that a player, who had been loyal to a team for nearly a decade, would be disrespected by that team. Well, Armstead claimed it happened to him, saying the 49ers disrespected him amidst the contract woes.
The 30-year-old said during his appearance on Third And Long podcast:
A lot has happened this offseason. I'm no longer with the 49ers. I have a new team. First off, I want to say I don't have any animosity toward the organization, Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, the York family. I did feel extremely disrespected. They extended an offer to me for… million dollars after nine years of me being there.Arik Armstead said
Armstead said the reason why he opened up about his exit from the Niners, is because his fans deserve an answer when no one gave him any. He argued that after everything that happened, he had to decide to exit and join the Jaguars on a $43.5 million three-year deal.
Arik Armstead’s arrival marks a defensive uptick for the Jaguars
Defensive end Armstead in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the current Jaguars General Manager Trent Baalke in the 49ers. Since then, he has been dedicated to the team for the last nine years, in which he logged 33.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, and 88 quarterback hits.

Baalke didn’t waste a second in signing him at Jacksonville when he became available in the free agency market. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson, said earlier this week:
There's a making of a potentially good defensive line by adding a guy like Arik and his credibility, his work ethic, and just the amount of football and where he's played.Doug Pederson said
He has signed a three-year lucrative contract with the Jaguars worth $43.5 million. He would be joining the squad of Josh Allen and Travon Walker to improve the team’s defensive line.
