Last Monday, the news of Austin Ekeler hit the internet as he finally found a new home in Washington Commander in a two-year contract deal.

After dedicating seven years of his career to the Los Angeles Chargers, the running back’s departure was predicted long ago, in 2023.

As he hit the free agency market, it was revealed the commanders had been pursuing the veteran RB since the beginning. In the introductory press conference in Washington, Ekeler talked about how he landed a pot with the commanders, admitting they had faith in him for contributing significantly to the team, both on and off the football field.

Right when Ekeler became a free agent, Washington showed immediate interest, as they believed the veteran would be the perfect player to be paired with Brian Robinson. They also believe Ekeler has the potential to become the leader the team needs at the moment.

They were definitely the most interested, and I think that comes down to the situation in the running back room. They have B-Rob, and if we can bring another back to add to that tandem and bring some leadership to the team, that’s why I thought it was a good fit.

Ekeler admitted on Monday.

Despite his age, Ekeler knows he still has plenty to offer the team, and he fancies himself leading young players and helping them strengthen their skills on the field. Right now, the commanders are in desperate need of a change, and adding Ekeler to the roster could be just the right decision for them.

As reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Ekeler signed a two-year contract deal with the Commanders worth $11.43 million.

Although he isn’t going to make any more money than he did with the Chargers last season, it seems like the right spot for him, because he recorded 69 touchdowns in seven seasons.

The reason why Ekeler parted ways with the Chargers is because of their unwillingness to offer the longtime running back a proper contract extension. The only thing they did last season was add incentives to his contract when he sought a trade request

Right now, the Commanders are entering a new era under the guidance of head coach Dan Quin and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Having an experienced player who once was a nightmare for the opposing defense is all they need for a team’s leader.
