The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all set to undergo a significant change in their quarterback position cometh the start of the 2023/24 season. The transition won’t be easy though, as the franchise looks to replace the legendary quarterback Tom Brady, who announced his retirement from the sport this February.
It won’t be easy, but it still needs to be done and the spot is being contested by veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield and second-year quarterback Kyle Trask. The Buccaneers signed Mayfield in March after the Los Angeles Rams released the quarterback. Mayfield signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million, including a $2 million signing bonus.
During his time with the Rams, he replaced an injured Matthew Stafford for four games and did more than a decent job. This spell was a big boost for the 28-year-old himself after his time with the Carolina Panthers ended on a sour note, wherein he only started six games before being replaced by head coach Matt Rhule.
Baker Mayfield has worked a lot on his gameplay and bond with his new Buccaneers teammates

The No.1 draft pick from the 2018 NFL draft has had a difficult NFL career so far, but it seems that he wants to change his fortunes this season with the Buccaneers. As reported by a source close to Sportskeeda, the quarterback is putting in a lot of effort to claim the starting position ahead of Trask.
The source also revealed that Baker Mayfield has bonded extremely well with his teammates so far, putting in efforts to visit important charity events and NHL games of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
“He is working his a** off to make the most of this opportunity. Tampa Bay has great weapons on offense and the new offense is tailor-made for Mayfield’s skill set. It features lots of rollouts, throws on the run, waggles, run/pass options – all the things that Baker does well. If he stays healthy, it could be a big year for him,“ the source revealed, as reported by Sportskeeda.
“Baker is a pro’s pro. He’s been a leader in the building, he has been a leader on the practice field and he has been all over town hanging out with his teammates. He has been to Rays and Lightning games with teammates and has also attended and supported key charity events hosted by teammates. Guys on this team love Baker. He’s working hard to be the opening day starter both on and off the field.”
Baker Mayfield has not been at his best ever since he led the Cleveland Browns to their first playoff appearance in 18 years during the 2020 season. However, he would want to bring out his best this season and the first step towards achieving that would be to grab hold of the starting quarterback spot at the franchise from head coach Todd Bowles.
