This season has been quite reviving for quarterback Baker Mayfield. After being released by the Carolina Panthers, he was overlooked by many teams across the league in free agency. But the good news was that Mayfield was re-established as an NFL starter in 2023.
Given that, a source revealed that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are taking quite an interest in the former Panthers quarterback, and he might return in the 2024 season as their starting quarterback. After struggling throughout the season, it seems Mayfield has finally found stable ground.

As for this season, the Bucs are in the middle of the playoff hunt, and they are currently standing at the No. 4 seed in the NFC. They are heading towards a showdown matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, standing at 8-6.
Amidst everything going on, the Bucs are coming to terms with Mayfield’s potential joining by working through the issues that may arise. Sources have confirmed that the quarterback has already cashed in with the team.
The potential contract that Mayfield might land would include a $4 million base and an additional $1 million from play-time incentives from his position as the starting quarterback. He would also be entitled to claim another $1 million if he led the team to win the NFC South divisional title.
How did Baker Mayfield reinvent himself?
Going into free agency this season, Mayfield has built his image as a legitimate franchise player, and if the Bucs want to land him as the starting QB, they might even have competition. The 28-year-old has logged the completion of 63.5% of his passes for 3,315 yards, along with 24 touchdowns and merely eight interceptions.
During his time at Cleveland Brown, Mayfield was known as the savior of the team. He was the first good quarterback that the franchise landed for a long time. Later on, when Deshaun Watson became a prospect for them, the Browns released Mayfield.

And then, he joined the Panthers as a replacement for Cam Newton. However, from there began his downfall, and the contract didn’t work out. But since he intertwined with the new offensive coordinator of Tampa Bay, Dave Canales, he has helped them win in their last three games before entering week 16.
