The Cleveland Browns fanbase started getting hostile towards Frelund to which she replied with a tweet. In Carolina, Mayfield beat out a number of quarterbacks for the starting position. These include Matt Corral, a rookie, P.J. Tucker, a veteran, and Sam Darnold, a former first-round choice.

After being acquired by the Panthers from the Browns in early July for a conditional fifth-round selection, Mayfield was just announced as the team’s starting quarterback. Mayfield consented to reduce his $18.9 million basic pay by $3.5 million in order to sign with Carolina. Of his deal, the Panthers took on around $5 million while the Browns are responsible for $10.5 million.

After moving to Charlotte, Mayfield made a name for himself as the No. 1 quarterback. Matt Rhule, the head coach of the Panthers, expressed his admiration for how quickly Mayfield adapted to Ben McAdoo’s scheme.
