“I can play better!” Bears QB Justin Fields clarifies that he wasn’t blaming the coaches in viral comments amid team’s poor run
Fields claims it wasn't his intention to blame the coaches

The Chicago Bears are in trouble. They just lost their defensive coordinator, and on top of that, quarterback Justin Fields can’t seem to stop complaining about the offensive playcalling.
Although not many were expecting much from the Bears because of their horrible 2022 season, there was renewed optimism after some inspiring performances from Fields in the friendlies. However, two NFL matchdays later, that spark is nowhere to be found among the players.
Especially Justin Fields, whom the Bears thought could be the answer to their woes. Unfortunately, their dreary run continues, and the 24-year-old showed disdain toward the coaching department. But after the backlash from all corners, it seems he has changed his stance on the recent failures.
“I’m not blaming anything on the coaches. I’m never going to blame anything on coaches,” Fields told the media yesterday. “Never going to blame anything on my teammates, and I will take all the blame. I don’t care if it’s a dropped pass; it should have been a pass. Put it on me.”
With that being said, that’s quite the U-turn from his earlier statement, where he took a subtle dig at offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. Fields indicated that the last-second pick-6 that led to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers clinching the victory last Sunday was not exactly his fault. He was only following the directions from Getsy. However, the Ohio State graduate’s recent claims signal that he had an epiphany.
“Never will you hear anything come out of my mouth to where I will blame it on somebody else in this organization,” Fields added. “I need to play better. That’s it. Point blank. That’s what I should’ve said in the first place.”
Justin Fields needs to turn things around if he wants to remain with the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears desperately needed a quarterback on whom they could rely for a long time. They went all out in the 2021 draft to sign Justin Fields. Former Bears defensive end Alex Brown even declared, “This is the kid.”

Bears primary reason for signing Fields was his ability with the feet. He could run fast, despite being a quarterback. Brown called it a skill that no quarterback in the NFL has. Naturally, the expectations were high, and when Luke Getsy joined the fray, they were hoping for some fireworks.
Unfortunately, in two and a half years, Justin Fields has been dreadful, to say the least. He has a 5-22 record from 27 matches in which he threw for 4539 yards, 26 touchdowns, 24 interceptions, and was sacked 101 times. Not the numbers an elite signal-caller should possess.
To make matters worse, the Chicago Bears have been winless for more than a year. If Fields wants to remain QB 1 for them, he needs to turn things around; otherwise, as Alex Brown said, the Bears will look elsewhere.
