Joe Burrow felt good enough to start on Monday night for the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the doubts surrounding his availability after suffering from an aggravated right calf, the quarterback chose to aid his team, which was in dire need of a win.

The Bengals were facing the possibility of losing three straight matches for the first time since Burrow’s rookie year. Not only that, there was also the risk of Burrow doing more damage to his calf. It was a repeat of the Super Bowl, where they took on the Los Angeles Rams, which they lost. So they had a score to settle.

“There is risk to go out there and potentially reinjure it,” Burrow said in an interview before the game. “But there’s also the risk to not go out there and be 0-3. So I wanted to be out there for my guys.”

The Pro Bowler kept his word by walking out of the tunnel, stretching his legs. But he did not look like the old Joe Burrow, who oozed confidence. He managed 26 of 49 passes for 259 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Fortunately for him, the defense was solid yesterday, and the Rams too struggled offensively. Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson caught two interceptions and six sacks collectively with the other defenders. They finally have some points on the board, narrowly winning it 19-16.

Burrow expressed that what matters is that they have the W. “Great first win of the year,” he told Laura Rutledge. “No matter how it looks, we got through it. No injuries, so moving onto next week.”

Rutledge then inquired about his fitness and how he felt about himself. “We are getting there,” Burrow added. “Every week will be better as long as there are no setbacks. We are gonna keep working hard to get healthy.”

Zac Taylor said that Joe Burrow was in good shape before facing the Los Angeles Rams

Losing the primary quarterback puts a lot of pressure on the coaching staff. It takes a lot of preparation and planning to devise strategies with one individual player. When that player gets sidelined, everything has to be redone.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was going through the same phase as Joe Burrow, who was doubtful even before the season began due to a rumored Achilles injury. Otherwise, the LSU product played the first two games, and it was less than ideal. He wasn’t able to make many rushes, and he was throwing way too many incomplete passes.

Wide receiver JaMarr’ Chase advised him to stay away and come back when he was 100%. However, Burrow kept coming back. It was more or less the same against the Rams, but the Bengals managed to carve out a victory.

“We were in good shape in the last couple of days,” Taylor told the media in the post-match press conference. He revealed that Burrow practiced for a short while in the morning. “He did a little bit this morning,” he added. “Just to take the place of his pregame stuff that he usually does. I asked him a few plays before, and he felt good about it.”

Still, they need to remain cautious about the injury. Burrow should be aware that the sore calf could easily flare up at any given moment.
