The week 17 game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals was postponed by the NFL after a horrific injury to the Bills’ safety, Damar Hamlin. The NFL still hasn’t made any official announcement about the game, but some reports suggest that the NFL might’ve made a decision.

Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin was resurrected on the field after a collision with the Bengals WR Tee Higgins and was transferred to a local hospital. His father has revealed that Damar is still in critical condition but making some good progress. The game was postponed by the league indefinitely, and the whole sporting world is praying for the young man’s quick recovery and is awaiting good news.

As for the Bengals-Bills games, the NFL hasn’t made any official announcement since they postponed it. Rumors are spreading around the league that the Bills might forfeit their remaining two games. If that happened, it would be bad for the Bills as they will end up losing their chance to clinch the No.1 seed. The Bills currently have the No.2 seed with a record of 12-3.

If the Bills and the Chiefs win out their remaining games, they would both have the same record, but the Bills would end up getting the first seed since they have already beaten the Chiefs in their matchup.

As for the Bengals, they had a long shot at the No.1 seed. If they win out their remaining games and the Chiefs lost to the Broncos in week 18, the Bengals would end up with the first-round playoff bye week. However, things are about to get a lot more complicated as the NFL is considering calling the Bengals-Bills game a no-contest.

The No.1 seed is very important to the NFL teams as it gives them a first-round playoff bye and also a home-field advantage throughout the postseason. With just one week left in the regular season, AFC and NFC first seeds are still up for grabs.

In NFC, the Eagles, Cowboys, and 49ers all have a shot at the No.1 seed and will fight for it in the final week of the regular season. In AFC, the Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals all have a shot at the first seed but the league has yet to announce what are they going to do about the postponed Bills-Bengals game. There are many speculations about what the league might do. In that trend, Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright has revealed that the league might be considering a ‘random number generator’ to determine the seeding in the AFC playoff picture.

“The game from last night right now is considered suspended. And it may end up being a no-contest,” Allbright said in a recent episode of The KOA Sports zoo. “That’s the idea that’s being pitched around right now as a no-contest between the two. And if a seeding issue comes into play after the Week 18 stuff is done, then they will use either a random number generator to not count a game and make it even on all sides.”

Determining the seeding by a random method is not unheard of in the football world, but it’s not been done before at the NFL level, and it’s highly unlikely that the league would end up using that method to determine the seeding.
