Damar Hamlin was back at Paycore Stadium, where he had just 10 months earlier suffered a terrible accident that could have taken his life. The Buffalo Bills‘ safety was brought back from the clutches of death by the onfield paramedics.

There was much anticipation of seeing an emotional return. However, the Bills wanted to be absolutely sure about playing Hamlin. He has only played just one game this season, and that was when Jordan Poyer was injured. Still, there was hope that he would still make an appearance anytime during the night.

Hamlin arrived at the stadium and greeted some of the Cincinnati Bengals players. Yet there was no news regarding whether he would play any part in the game. Then ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that the 25-year-old was healthy but would remain inactive.

The Bills lost the game 24-18 and slipped to 3rd AFC East. Not the ideal situation for the New York franchise, considering they face rivals the Jets, Eagles, and Chiefs in the next three games.

But for Hamlin, not being involved in the game was disappointing. CNBC reporter Olivia Ray shared a clip on her X account of the 2021 6th-round pick alone in the middle of the Paycore turf. He stayed there for more than 10 minutes, reminiscing about the events that took place earlier this year.

To show how much the moment meant, he reshared Ray’s clip. He captioned it,

Tonight was everything for me.. y’all don’t know the half of it. Trust me.

What happened to Damar Hamlin?

In a fascinating 2022 season, winning 12-3 and 11-4, the Bengals and Bills met in the divisional round. The venue was the same as yesterday, and fans were excited to see young quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Josh Allen go head-to-head.

During the 6-minute mark in the first quarter, Burrow took a shotgun snap and passed it to receiver Tee Higgins. While making his way through the midway point of the field, he collided head-first with Hamlin, hitting him in between his chin and upper chest. The LSU graduate got back up but fell flat on the ground and stayed down.

The medical team rushed to the spot and applied CPR while the rest of the country watched in silence. After 15 minutes of fighting, they strapped Hamlin to a stretcher and carted him away to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

According to reports, his heart had stopped momentarily. Fortunately, the quick administrator of automated external defibrillation (AED) saved his life. After spending a few days in intensive care, the Bills released a statement that Hamlin was fine and was in rehab. He rejoined the team during the offseason.
