The Buffalo Bills lost their week 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. That defeat resulted in them slipping to 5-4 this season. The Bills came into the season with Super Bowl expectations. They have been knocking on that title door for the past couple of years but never managed to get in. This season was supposed to be THE year for the Buffalo-based side. However, halfway through the season, it feels unlikely that this Bills team will win the championship.
The Bills were completely outplayed by the Bengals on Sunday. Although the team started on a positive note by answering the Bengals’ opening TD drive with their own, they faltered in the later stages of the game. QB Josh Allen had a costly interception and WR Stefon Diggs was shut down by the Bengals’ defense. Their HC Sean McDermott blamed the loss on inconsistent overall play.
“Just too inconsistent overall,” McDermott told the reporters. He then added:
Not enough complementary football. Turned the ball over twice, I thought the defense got off to a slow start the first drive in particular… Too much inconsistencies in the kicking game as well as just the offense overall. Some good plays and just not enough of them.
He further continued by saying:
I thought we got off to a really good start in a rhythm and then after that, it was tough sledding. And that can’t happen against a good football team that is known for scoring points.
The Bills hired McDermott in 2017. He helped the Bills in reestablishing themselves as a playoff team. However, the past couple of years have been rough for the Bills and McDermott and he is under pressure to deliver a title to Buffalo, especially with a QB like Josh Allen.
Sean McDermott defends Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey
The Buffalo Bills were on a tear offensively in the early part of the season. However, the last month or so has been rough for them on that side of the ball as the Bills have struggled to put up points on the board. A lot of the Bills fans have been calling for OC Ken Dorsey‘s job, but HC Sean McDermott defended his coordinator.
McDermott said:
I get it. I understand everyone’s frustration. I absolutely do. We’re working extremely hard to make the adjustments we have to make. Ken is doing the same. So, I remain confident in Ken and our offensive staff, and we continue to work hard at improving.
The Bills will play their next game against the Denver Broncos on Monday, November 13. They will hope to win that game and get back into the contenders list. They are currently second in their division, behind the Miami Dolphins, who hold a record of 6-3.
