Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback who led the New England Patriots to win all six of their Super Bowl trophies, is soon stepping into the next phase of his life as an NFL analyst.
In the fall of 2024, the 46-year-old will officially join the broadcast booth with Fox Sports. However, there’s one person who suggests Brady’s talent as an in-game commentator would be underutilized, and that’s the prominent commentator, Bob Costas.
As one of the most significant commentators at NBC Sports, Costos is often asked for his suggestions and opinions by major studio heads and executives. However, he wasn’t approached when Fox Sports signed the 5-time Super Bowl MVP winner.
Now that everything is in the air, the 71-year-old commentator, who has decades of experience working behind the microphone, advised Fox Sports to rather keep Brady in the studio and not waste his talent as an in-game anchor.
They didn't ask me and I don't expect them to, but if I were running it, I'd use him in the studio rather than on games. The glamor factor, the on-camera factor. And also, it's less of a strain on him. The level of preparation to work a game and what it takes to get the hang of it, it's just an easier fit in the studio. I would say watch Derek Jeter this past postseason.Said Costas in a conversation with the New York Post
Moving forward, Costas also suggested Brady should seek out and learn from former Yankees star Derek Jeter.
I would say watch Derek Jeter this past postseason. Here's a guy who was famously circumspect about everything, but was willing in his own way to step out and be more critical than we've ever seen him be.He further added
In his opinion, if an anchor can’t be critical, which doesn’t mean being “harsh or take potshots,” then the purpose of being a viewer isn’t fulfilled.
Tom Brady had plans to return to the NFL but backed down
In a recent post on Instagram, the legend Tom Brady shared several pictures from the year 2023, including moments with friends and family. But the interesting part was his caption, in which he bid goodbye to 2023 in a heartfelt note but also described the year as the one where he decided to retire, but also the one in which he nearly came back.
The only downside to 2023 was when I was about to unretire in May and my friends threw a surprise retirement party. Kind of forced my hand. The caption read
Brady wanted to return to the league this year, but as his friends had already thrown him a retirement party, he backed out.
If he had returned, that would have been his second time. The quarterback did retire after the 2021 season but returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led the team to their Super Bowl victory.
