The College Football Playoff voting has caused a lot of stir in the football world. The four teams that have made into the CFP semifinals are Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama. However, one team missing in this is the unbeaten Florida State University, who were left out in favor of Alabama. That decision has caused some controversy.
The college football‘s regular season ended with the aforementioned teams having a combined record of 50-2. The Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies finished the season with a 13-0 record, whereas the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide had a record of 12-1 each.
However, FSU also finished with a record of 13-0 but were left out of the playoffs altogether. CFP committee chair Boo Corrigan broke down the reason for this choice.
Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks--It was an incredible season. But as you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis and without the offensive dynamic that he brings to it, they are a different team, and the committee voted Alabama No. 4 and Florida State No. 5.
Travis went down with an injury in FSU’s game against North Alabama.
Corrigan also claimed that the committee “went over it 6-8 times” and eventually gave Alabama the nod. The Seminoles barely won against Louisville in their final regular season game, whereas Alabama beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC title game.
Florida senator Rick Scott sent Boo Corrigan a letter after FSU missed the CFP
Florida State University went unbeaten this season and yet failed to make a place in the college football playoffs top 4. CFP Committee chair Boo Corrigan clarified that FSU is a “different team” now than they were 11 weeks ago and that was the reason why Alabama was chosen ahead of FSU. Florida senator Rick Scott has taken exception to that decision as he sent a letter to Corrigan demanding answers.
I am demanding answers and transparency from the @CFBPlayoff Selection Committee following its unprecedented exclusion of @FSUFootball from the playoffs.Scott wrote on X
He believes that the exclusion is not just due to football reasons, but financial reasons as well.
Michigan Wolverines will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl on January 1. Second-ranked Washington Huskies will take on the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl that same day. Winners of those two games will play each other in the NCAA Championship game.
